Hey everyone,
Abigail Martel here, co-founder of Forest City Candles. With over 10 years of experience in hand-pouring soy candles, I've learned a few tips and tricks along the way. Here are my top 8 tips for making the perfect soy candle:
- Choose the right wick: Soy wax burns slower than other waxes, so it's important to choose a wick that will keep your candle burning evenly. Look for wicks that are specifically designed for soy wax.
- Use high-quality soy wax: Not all soy wax is created equal. Opt for premium soy wax made from 100% pure soybean oil for the best results.
- Avoid overheating: Soy wax has a low melting point, which means it can easily overheat. Keep the wax temperature at or below 145°F to prevent overheating and ensure a smooth pour.
- Add fragrance oil at the right time: Fragrance oils can cause soy wax to seize if added too early. Wait until the wax has cooled to around 130°F before adding fragrance oil.
- Use proper pouring techniques: To prevent air bubbles and ensure a smooth surface, pour the melted wax slowly and steadily into the jar.
- Avoid moving the candle: Once the candle has been poured, avoid moving it or tapping the jar. Doing so can cause air bubbles and uneven wax surface.
- Let the candle cool completely: Before lighting, let the candle cool completely and allow the wax to set. This will help the candle burn evenly and last longer.
- Store candles properly: Keep candles away from direct sunlight and store in a cool, dry place to prevent fading and discoloration.
By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to making perfect soy candles every time!
